The Soot.
It was like any other day in my town Oyigbo, Bonny and Port Hart court city when I joined others on the streets.
We were protesting and seeking for help from local governments and international communities of what have befallen us in the past years “THE SOOT”.
I will describe the soot as large quantities of dark black smoke sent into the atmosphere as a result of crude oil exploitation. This smoke is mainly as a result of the activities of illegal oil refineries. as in the process of producing jet fuel, cooking gas and gasoline. This poisonous emission was the reason we took banners and placards to the streets.
We had as our main goal, creating awareness and sensitizing the world about the hazardous air pollution with the hashtag “STOP THE SOOT”.
This soot causes a lot of problems as we can’t breathe fresh air, and the companies only consider their interest. As a result the medical consequences are alarming. For example it causes cancer, respiratory disease and even premature death.
Therefore, it will be good if the International communities, multi-national companies(shell) and the Nigerian government swing into action. In so doing they will train our people on air pollution management, organize series of workshops and license modular refineries.
